ABOUT DOUG |
years. He has managed to make over a million dollars playing the guitar. And, most important, he is having more fun than a human being should be allowed to have. He made his New York debut at the age of twenty-one in Carnegie Recital Hall. Since then he has appeared before enthusiastic audiences across the country, prompting one critic to write, “Mr. Niedt is not only a brilliant master of his instrument, but a performer of great sensitivity. The wealth of sound and the dynamic finesse which he elicits from the guitar promise to make him a worthy companion of the few great guitarists such as Andres Segovia and Julian Bream.” A native of St. Louis, Mr. Niedt began his study of the guitar at the age of seven with his father, an amateur guitarist. He later polished his playing to gem-like brilliance through studies at the Juilliard School and the Segovia Master Classes in Spain, and with Christopher Parkening, Narciso Yepes, and Jorge Morel. His CD “Pure Magic” contains fun virtuosic music from Argentina and wonderful arrangements of music by Duke Ellington, Tommy Emmanuel, Richard Rodgers, and Secret Garden. It also contains his famous arrangement of Stanley Myers’ Cavatina. His beautiful Christmas CD is titled “In Heavenly Peace.” It contains some of the most moving and creative arrangements of Christmas music for solo guitar ever recorded. His best-selling performance DVD is titled “Douglas Niedt— American Virtuoso.” Professor Niedt is chair of the guitar program at the Conservatory of Music and Dance, University of Missouri—Kansas City. As part of his educational outreach, he also writes a Technique Tip of the Month, available free on his website, www.DouglasNiedt.com. |
